Free-Motion Quilting Ideas: How to Quilt Hearts Free Tutorial

Posted on Leave a comment

Hi there everyone.  With Valentine’s Day just around the corner I thought I’d make up another free PDF tutorial and video for you guys.  This one is on how to quilt hearts!  I love quilting hearts because they are very forgiving and have a lot of movement.

Here are some examples of hearts from portions of my Free-Motion Quilting Idea Sampler.  (You can join the Facebook group for the Sampler, Book, and App where we talk quilting here.)

hearts color 1000

I like to put pebbles in the areas between the hearts to fill in any awkward gaps and add interest.

hearts white 1000

And here is a video so you can see how I actually quilted these out on the BERNINA Q 24…

Before I had the Q 24 I quilted this on my BERNINA domestic machine all the time so you CAN do this!

If you are like me you like to have a visual reference close by while you are quilting, so I also made you a free handout.  To get the pdf delivered to your inbox click here or on the graphic below. (But don’t worry, if you are already on my list for updates it won’t send you a duplicate emails – it just needs your email to send the pdf.)

I hope you all have lovely holidays!

Note:  The winner of the book for this post is Lori Morton – congratulations Lori!

Hi guys,

This is the last day of The Free-Motion Quilting Idea Book blog Tour.  (Say that 3 times fast)

FMQIdeaBook_2420

By now you probably know all about the book…

  • That it was designed to spark your imagination so you could try some new designs and get those finished quilt tops quilted!
  • That most of the pages in the book are devoted to diagrams that show you how to accomplish quilting with ease

FMQIdeaBook_2428

  • That you can look things up by family or by block.
  • That there is a coordinating sampler available for download on C&T’s site with piecing instructions for every block in the book.

  • That VERY soon (I don’t have an exact date yet) there will be an app with access to videos and animations for the allover patterns in the book in the iTunes store.
  • That all the videos were filmed on the BERNINA Q 24 and the BERNINA 790.
  • And that you have a chance to win a copy of the book right here by leaving a comment on this post before midnight on Sunday, November 15th, telling me your favorite allover free-motion allover pattern.  It can be one you enjoy quilting or one you’d like to learn.  (And don’t forget some stops on the FMQIdea Book blog tour are still accepting entries!)

One more thing… if you already have the book thank you for purchasing it and I hope you enjoy it!  If you do, please consider leaving a review on Amazon’s site.  I would really appreciate it.

Happy quilting!
