Quiltermaker’s 100 Blocks Volume 3 Blog Tour!

Posted on

Hi everyone!

Well, the blog tour for Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks is well underway and this is my day to talk about my block (and to giveaway a little something extra – see details below)!  I used Swiss Chocolate sample yardage, which I had just received at the time the block was designed.  You’ll find the pattern on page 46 of Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks Volume 3, which should be out on newstands next week.

A lot of you know that Swiss Chocolate was designed in two color stories: Mocha and Chocolate.  Since I used Mocha for the Swiss Chocolate quilt in Quiltmaker’s March/April 2011 issue, I decided to use the Chocolate color story for this block.  Here she is…

A few of the prints in this collection really lent themselves to fussy-cut pieces, and I decided to make use of this.  I had a hard time deciding between the stripe and the blossom print, but in the end I chose to use the stripe.

I’ve heard from many people who used Swiss Chocolate in home decor projects, so I thought it would be great to show you a table runner using this block x 3, with variations.

I’ll be kitting up one of these table runners (your choice!) for three lucky winners.  The first winner will also receive a copy of Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks, Volume 3., courtesy of Quiltmaker.  I can’t absolutely promise that the packages will go out before Market (still sewing like mad around here), but I’ll try.  If not, they will go out the following week.  To enter:
Become a follower of my blog and leave me a comment telling me what your favorite quilting technique is.  If you already are a follower, leave a comment about your favorite technique too.  (My kids will be forever grateful for the follower part because, if I reach 250 followers, we get to go out for ice cream!)  Also let me know what table runner kit you would choose.
If you comment anonymously, please leave your contact information in the post so that I can contact you!
Only one entry per person, please.
The deadline to enter the giveaway is on midnight Saturday, May 7th.
And remember that Quiltmaker will be giving away a yard of each print of THE ENTIRE LINE OF SWISS CHOCOLATE courtesy of Robert Kaufman, along with other great prizes, later in the week, so check out their site.   There are some great giveaways, along with links to other designers’ fabulous sites!

Have fun and happy sewing!
Amanda

Been working on it for the last 6 months. Still has more practice to go through, coming up is to learn how to free motion quilt The "Feather". Thanks for the giveaway!

Hope you meet your blog goal. Does anyone like Chocolate Mocha Ice Cream?

  9. Hi, I am now a follower…and I love chocolate! Your block looks good enough to eat. Congrats on having it included in the magazine.

  10. I like your block choice and I really enjoyed seeing the table runner options. My favorite technique in quilting is actually the fabric selection. Thinking of new ways to put colors together and stretching my boundaries of what is 'acceptable' – even stretching the limits of my likes and dislikes.

  11. I love piecing – putting bits of fabric back together into lovely patterns – the best fun ever!!!!
I already follow and I just love the browns and blues together – I'm a mocha fan! Congratulations on having your block published and thanks for the giveaway chance.

  12. my favorate technicue is Guilt as you go, I just love that because I can get things done faster, for the big quilts, I also like to free motion quilting on smaller projects. I am a follower now!My favourite technique is applique and I love to handquilt!

  19. I am now a follower and love the mocha striped runner. Thanks for the giveaway.

  20. Mocha Blossom runner, although any one of them would be wonderful. I love all techniques except needle-turned applique. Easier to go this way than to pick a favorite technique. Thanks so much!

  21. I'm already a follower. (Sorry kids!) And, thanks to a really terrific teacher, my new favorite technique is to create mitered corners on my quilt borders! πŸ˜‰

  22. Love the chocolate stripe..but when it comes to chocolate, there's no "bad" stuff out there! I'm still learning and too new to have a favorite…I find it all enthralling!

  23. I signed up to follow. Looks like your kids will be getting ice cream soon! I love everything about quilting but my very favorite thing is probably paper piecing. And your runners and fabrics are gorgeous – I think Chocolate Blossom is my very favorite.

  24. Thanks for doing this runner in different fabrics-they're all great, but I especially like Chocolate Blossom Runner.

  25. I forgot to say that I like the chocolate stripe the best. Thanks for the chance to win.

  26. I became a follower, so your kids are close to getting their ice cream. I like the Mocha Blossom table runner. Thanks for a chance to win.

  27. I'm a new follower! I like machine applique. Tendinitis in my wrists keeps me from doing hand applique, so I'm glad I can do it on the machine. I like the Chocolate Striped runner and the Chocolate Blossom runner. Thanks so much!

  28. I am an applique addict. I love the Mocha Blossom Runner. Isn't it great how everyone loves something different? Your fabrics are gorgeous.

Can I go for ice cream too?

  29. I just became a follower – but have been a fan through magazines for a little while! I hope the kids get their ice scream!! I use my machine and plug away slowly at my quilting. I use the Quilt Pounce and find it easier that way…I hope to work up the nerve for FMQ!
    Maria

  30. Great block! I just became a follower and hope your kids get the ice cream! I think my favorite technique next to traditional machine piecing is needle-turn applique. Thanks for the chance to win!

  31. Hi Amanda! Love your new Swiss Chocolate line of fabarics.

One of my favorite quilting tips: I recently completed a baby quilt with hexagons on the edge where a regular binding would not do.
I dedided to make a facing like one would do for a neckline or arm hole in garment sewing. I made large stips and sewed them to the edge of the quilt (fabric right sides together). I then clipped the corners of each hexagon and trimmed the seams carefully. I turned the facing inside out and it turned out beautifully.

    Thanks!
    Granny Franny

  32. Great runner! Love the Mocha striped one. As a new quilter, I don't have a favorite technique–I'm still trying to master the basics! Thanks for the chance to win!

  33. I dont know how to become a follower, blogging is new to me, but I like the table runner with the blue stripe

  34. I am a follower and my favorite runner is Mocha Stripe!

  35. Mocha Blossom Runner – not sure about quilting technique – I love the entire process – well maybe not machine quilting so much, but my long armer is wonderful. I am a follower. Judy C

  36. Take those kids out for ice cream!I like the Mocha Striped Runner. My favorite quilting technique is to take it to my friend, Millie at http://milliesquilting.blogspot.com and have her quilt it on her longarm. πŸ™‚

  37. LOVE the Chocolate Blossum runner and truly loved this line of fabric. – I will folow you. Favorite quilting technique – I have my quilt professionally quilted so I can spend my time piecing and creating.

  38. I'm following. Table runner is very elegant. I love to applique but don't get it done much I'm afraid, the pre time gets me!

  39. Love the Swiss Chocolate line. All the variations of the runner really get my creative juices flowing!

  40. Chocolate Striped is my favorite runner because of the pink stripe…it looks very striking. My favorite quilting technique is needleturn applique, but I'm starting to be a big fan of Cindy Blackberg's stamped templates for hand piecing…they make it much more accurate and portable.

P.S. Looks like you're getting close to taking the kids out for ice cream!

  41. I've been getting your newsletter but have now become a follower – kids need ice cream you know…

My choice would be chocolate blossom if I am lucky enough. Delicious fabrics!

My favourite way to quilt is machine piecing (for speed) but I have a secret fondness for the old fashioned template piecing by hand (American style – not English)

  42. oooh I love the striped runners. I don't know if I could choose between the two! I would actually like the chocolate with the blue stripe! That would be perfect for me! Dana.

My fav technique is machine quilting. Love the table runners, I'd choose the blue kit.
    Thanks for the giveaway!!

  46. I signed up to follow. Thanks for creating the different options. I like to see the blocks pieced into a project to see the secondary patterns that may be created! I don't have a favorite anything in quilting, my mood changes as does the projects I want to work on, lol.

I really like the table runner with the blossom fabric in the pink and brown colors!

  47. Love the mocha strip combination. I love paper piecing. Have made several quilts using this technique.

  48. I'm a follower of your blog with Google Reader, and I like machine piecing. I'm a newbie quilter. I love this fabric line, and love the Mocha Blossom Runner, but would be thrilled to win any of them! πŸ™‚

  49. Wow. Just beautiful. I think if my arm was twisted really hard and I was forced to make a decision between all the options I'd choose Chocolate Blossom Runner. I really love them all but that one just looks more 'rich' to me.

Hmm favorite quilting technique? I honestly do not have think I can point to just one specific technique as I like the entire process other than the toughest one of all; the one that's the toughest part in my mind is choosing WHICH quilt to make next. LOL

Tell the kids to enjoy their ice cream! I have followed your blog for awhile now but never clicked that 'follow' button so now I'm a 'real' follower as opposed I guess to just being a stalker? LOL

  50. I'm all for helping your children get to go out for Ice Cream. I like all types of quilting techniques except paper piecing- I like the precision, but the paper…aaagggg.

  51. Beautiful blocks. Brown is one of my favorite colors. But then I love all clors.
Crossing my fingers here in Indiana!
    XOXOXO Subee

  54. Good enough to eat! Great block.

  55. Hi, I'm a new follower. Just LOVE the pink and brown kit. Thanks for the chance to win.

  56. My favorite quilting technique is "quilt as you go". A friend taught me the technique and I just love it. The "Mocha Blossom Runner" is my favorite.

  57. If looking at other people's quilts was a technique I'd say that was my all-time favorite! The thrill of discovering fabrics and colours that make sense together, the design process might otherwise rate the most enjoyment for me. Then, the actual quilting and binding because the vision has nearly been realised, many times very different to what I'd expected. The in-between stuff is mainly hard work and frustration as I try to get points to match etc… Thanks for asking…your work is superb, I especially like the bold beauty of Chocolate Stripe, it's not hard to imagine that in our home? God bless you.

  58. What a lovely block. There's just something about pink and brown that I absolutely love!

  59. I love both the mocha striped and mocha blossom with the blues and pinks. Beautiful
