Free-Motion Quilting Ideas: How to quilt a holly leaf!

Posted on 2 Comments

Hi everyone, I hope you are having a lovely holiday season.  I was playing on Q24 yesterday and stumbled on something really fun I thought I’d share with you.  Quilting free-motion holly leaves!

Oh my gosh… it is so much fun!  And you don’t have to be an expert to do it since leaves are pretty forgiving.  (I used my Sparkle line for Benartex and Aurifil 50 wt. cotton thread.)

I made a video for you guys…

But if you are like me you like to have a visual reference close by while you are quilting, so I also made you a free handout.  To get the pdf delivered to your inbox click here or on the graphic below. (But don’t worry, if you are already on my list for updates it won’t send you a duplicate emails.)

I hope you all have lovely holidays!

Sparkle patterns!

Hi everyone,

If you are visiting over from BERNINA’s We All Sew blog where I’m talking about the BERNINA panel today, welcome!  (And if you just happened onto my blog make sure to check out We All Sew!)  My name is Amanda Murphy and I’m a Quilting and Longer Spokesperson for BERNINA, fabric designer for Benartex (and also OESD), and author with C&T Publishing.  My latest patterns designed for my newest collection – Sparkle – just arrived on my doorstep so I thought I’d share. (The Sparkle fabric ships in March/April from Benartex (shops can order now) but I put the pattern up now in case you were doing last minute sewing for Christmas.)

First up… “Jingle” a quick and fun stocking pattern.

Next comes “Twinkle” – a 10” square-friendly whimsical modern quilt…

The third new pattern is a fun table topper that makes a great gift called, “Petals”

Are you still with me?  The last new pattern is my personal favorite – a variation on a Dresden Plate called “Firecracker”!  (It actually isn’t quite here yet, but I’m expecting it by the end of the week, so I’m posting it with the others.)

I hope you like Jingle, Twinkle, Petals, and Firecracker!  They are now all over in my shop.  I also put together a collection so you get a discount if you are interested in all four.

Thanks for letting me share!  I’ll be back on Friday with a review of a book by my friend, Christa of Christa Quilts.  Have a great week, everyone!

Note:  The winner of the book for this post is Lori Morton – congratulations Lori!

Hi guys,

This is the last day of The Free-Motion Quilting Idea Book blog Tour.  (Say that 3 times fast)

FMQIdeaBook_2420

By now you probably know all about the book…

  • That it was designed to spark your imagination so you could try some new designs and get those finished quilt tops quilted!
  • That most of the pages in the book are devoted to diagrams that show you how to accomplish quilting with ease

  • That you can look things up by family or by block.
  • That there is a coordinating sampler available for download on C&T’s site with piecing instructions for every block in the book.

  • That VERY soon (I don’t have an exact date yet) there will be an app with access to videos and animations for the allover patterns in the book in the iTunes store.
  • That all the videos were filmed on the BERNINA Q 24 and the BERNINA 790.
  • And that you have a chance to win a copy of the book right here by leaving a comment on this post before midnight on Sunday, November 15th, telling me your favorite allover free-motion allover pattern.  It can be one you enjoy quilting or one you’d like to learn.  (And don’t forget some stops on the FMQIdea Book blog tour are still accepting entries!)

One more thing… if you already have the book thank you for purchasing it and I hope you enjoy it!  If you do, please consider leaving a review on Amazon’s site.  I would really appreciate it.

Happy quilting!
