It is true – I’m leaving shortly for QuiltCon in Savannah and hope to meet some of you I haven’t met before there! Please stop by the BERNINA booth (#201-205), hosted by the Augusta Sewing Center, and say “hi”. I’ll be demoing the BERNINA Q24 and Q20 on Friday and Saturday – so excited!
I’ve been doing a ton of teaching lately, but I did finally find time to sew and proof the remaining Nordic Holiday patterns. (I post most of my open teaching events over in my Facebook group, along with quilting tutorials, etc. so please join if you haven’t already.) They are off to the printer today so should ship in about a week!
Thanks for your patience on these – there was a delay in the fabric shipping for this collection which in turn delayed the patterns. The good news is the next collection and pattern grouping will be right on time – I just can’t show it yet! Soon though – Spring Market is right around the corner and I’ll show some sneak peeks in my Facebook group before then. ( It coordinates with both Nordic Holiday and Sewing Room!)
Hi guys!I hope you are having a wonderful start to your new year! Just three quick notes about new things that are happening at Amanda Murphy Design…
1) Today I’m over on Aurifil’s blog talking about how I quilt with their threads so be sure to check out my post for quilting tips and tricks!I’m a huge fan of Aurifil threads and recently designed a whitework quilt featuring 28 spools of thread in Art and Stitch by modifying some of the motifs in my Sewing Room Quilting Collection, which is digitized for longarms but also for home embroidery machines.(More on that soon…) I stitched it out on the BERNINA Q24 longarm using Q-Matic automation. You can see pictures below…
2) Second… have you joined my Facebook group yet?To be among the first to see my video quilting tutorials when I film them, please join us!
3) The Aurifil Block-of-the-Month is starting up!(I’m Month 12 and my color is aqua so you can imagine how excited I am!)To get directions to make the first month’s block, designed by Janet Clare, click here. I made my own version in my Nordic Holiday collection for Contempo/Benartex (shipping this April), which you can see below.I did a post for Aurifil awhile back talking about how I appliqué with their thread that you can reference here. Many of you know that I like to use their heavyweight threads for appliqué, but for this month’s block I appliqués in 50 wt. thread in colors 2021 and 2065 because of the delicacy of the motif. You can enter to win a 12 spool box of Aurifil thread each month simply by making the block and posting it at Pat Sloan’s website.
Hi guys! I’m sorry to say this is a quick recap of a post I wrote a couple of weeks ago. We had some major tech issues here and had to do a blog restore and I lost all the data for the past couple months. Tears. Just trying to recap here so you don’t miss anything!
Well, Fall Quilt Quilt Market came and went in a blink of an eye once again and I’m just now getting to sharing my new things on the blog. So without further ado here is Nordic Holiday, my new line for Benartex…
Our Contempo booth won second place! You can see it below. Cherry Guidry’s Mulberry Lane is on the left of the tree and my Nordic Holiday line is on the right.)
And here are close-ups of the prints in the collection – my favorite thing about them is that they are more of winter focus, so can be kept out all winter long. I’m so excited to see what you guys sew with them! (And please don’t forget to tag me on so that I can see them @amandamurphydesign on Instagram!)
The quilt that inspired the collection was my Nordic Row Sampler. The Nordic Row Sampler is shown hanging is in red and aqua. There is a red and green version too. This quilt pieced entirely from strip sets!
I wanted my other large quilt to be quite different. Here is a softer Starry Night Starry Night in blues and greens. Matching runner and placemat directions are included in the pattern.
Next up is Northern Lights… a set of minis similar to my pattern that can also be finished as pillows.
And Starstruck is back, making an encore appearance because the graphic stars make this 2-1/2” strip quilt just perfect for this collection.
We made Christmas ornaments in our hotel room the night before. These were super easy! Just take an embroidery hoop and remove the screw, spray the outer hoop white, put the screw back in and insert batting and fabric. Then trim the fabric flush with the back of the hoop.
Patterns will come as soon as yardage is here so everything can be proofed. Northern Lights and Starstruck are already at the printer and the larger project directions will ship in first quarter of next year. The Nordic Holiday fabric line ships in April and the embroidery collection is already here and can be ordered at your local shop.
If you love the line please ask them to order it from Contempo, by Benartex. Thanks, guys!
