Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks, Volume 6

Posted on 171 Comments

Well it is that time again.  Quiltmaker has put out another issue in their 100 Blocks series – Volume 6.  These magazines are so fun!  Can you guess which is mine?

Well, here is a hint.  I’ve had a thing for aqua and blue Christmas designs lately.  Yes, mine is the white-on-aqua snowflake in the second row.  It is on page 42 and is called “Winter’s Jewel.”

I enjoyed making this.  The applique and piecing are really simple but, because of the color choices, they look bold.  I used some fabrics from Laurie Wisbrun’s Brrr collection and also some neutrals by Patrick Lose, both of which are manufactured by Robert Kaufman.

Winter’s Jewel can be arranged in many ways.

Quilt 1 – no border

Quilt 2 – on point with white border
Snowflake Runner or Wall Hanging

Quiltmaker is giving away a free copy of the magazine to a reader here! To enter leave a comment telling me which of these statements is a lie:

I worked in a wood shop for 2 years.
I once had to get stitches because I impaled myself with a plastic bagel knife.
I am an avid gardener.

Winners will be chosen from posts with the right answer using the random number generator.  First prize will get the magazine and second will get a free copy of one of my new patterns, either Palace Doors, Fizz, Sunflower Row, or Harlequin.

Deadline to enter is midnight on Friday, November 9th.

Be sure to check out all the other blocks and enter to win more giveaways on Quiltmaker’s blog!

Happy sewing!

Busy

Oh my goodness!  After market has been a busy time here and my family is just putting up with me and my messes, which have covered the first floor of the house.

First, the patterns arrived from the printer so there was packing and shipping to do.  (All market orders and distributor orders have now shipped, so you will see them popping up in the next few days.  Look on the sidebar of my blog for shops that carry my patterns and if you are shop that would like to be added to the list please email me.  If you place orders through a distributor, I don’t always know to add your name.)

And see those big Bernina boxes in the background?  I picked up the Bernina 780 from Sew Much Fun and get two weeks to try all the new features.  Is it possible to be in love with a bobbin case?  I do – I do – I LOVE this bobbin case.  It sews so smoothly and is impossible to thread the wrong way, even for me!

Two weeks is just not long enough with this machine.  I get to try all the new software too – DesignWorks Suite includes CutWork, Crystalwork, and PaintWork!  I’ll be talking about that here and on We All Sew in late December.

And on top of that there is a new collection to finalize and I just received strike offs from Blend Fabrics for my new Christmas collection – Holiday Bouquet.  It will ship in spring.  I hope you like it.  The ornaments will be so fun to applique!

Hope everyone is enjoying their sewing time and getting lots of it!
