December 2017 Aurifil Block-of-the-Month Block

Posted on 4 Comments

Hi everyone!

I’m excited to be participating in Aurifil’s Block-of-the-Month this year.  This year’s theme was the rainbow and I was thrilled to get AQUA!!!  Do you think I design enough prints with aqua?  I’m not sure…

Some aqua SKUs from my most recent collection for Contempo of Benartex – “Winter Games”

More aqua in my “Winter Sports” quilt.

And more aqua in “Fa La La Latte”, which is a pattern for placemats and a runner or bed pillow.

I love using feature prints in my work so I decided to make a block that would allow you to really make use of them!  I called the block “Tightrope”, because it looked like all the elements were trapeze artists balancing on a rope!

First, I made a block in mostly aqua.

But then I made two more with aqua as the focal point.

Want to sew along?  You can get the pattern delivered to your inbox by clicking here.

You can find the patterns for prior blocks by visiting Aurifil’s blog.

If you make this block, don’t forget to post to a photo here because they are giving away a large 12 spools thread collection of Pat Sloan’s to a lucky winner who has sewn the block!

I sewed along this year at a inconsistent pace.  Some months I had no blocks, other months I had multiple blocks, but such is life… For my version of the quilt, I pulled from all of my collections this year to make the quilt: Folk Art Fantasy, Meadow Dance, and Winter Games.  I chose the grey ring fabric from Winter Games for sashing and I just loved how it turned out.

Aurifil 2017 Block-of-the-Month by Amanda Murphy

Thanks to Aurifil for including me in their 2017 Block-of-the-Month! I really enjoyed it.

I hope that you enjoy the block pattern.  I’ll be back with another special free pattern for my followers before the holidays – so be watching your email!

Happy quilting!

Meadow Dance Blog Hop and Giveaways!

Posted on 216 Comments

Note: The winner of this giveaway is Peggy, who said that Meadow Blooms “tops the list” for her.  Congratulations, Peggy, and thanks for commenting everyone!

Hi everyone!
The folks at Contempo of Benartex have arranged a blog hop for my new collection, Meadow Dance, and we didn’t want you to miss it!

For more information head on over to Sew in Love with Fabric, where I talk about the line, the prints, the inspiration behind the motifs, a coordinating Aurifil thread collection, etc. And for the rest of the week they have a fun giveaway in store for you all each and every day!

In celebration of the hop, I think I’ll do a little giveaway myself! Just tell me which your favorite pattern is this time by leaving a comment on the blog to enter. I’ll pick a random winner of Meadow Dance goodies (patterns and a charm square) this Sunday night (the 24th).  If you already have the patterns I’ll send you other patterns of your choice, so no worries there!  (One entry per person please.)

Just as a little reminder, these are the patterns this time round, all pieced on my BERNINA 780 and quilted on the BERNINA Q Series

Meadow Blooms
“Meadow Blooms”, my two-block quilt that looks WAY harder to piece than it actually is!

“Meadow Song”, a modern take on a Dresden that is scrappy with two background prints.

“Meadowsweet” – a fun applique pattern with SVG files included!

Meadow Minis
“Meadow Minis”, a block-of-the-month with directions for “quilt-as-you-go” rulerwork!

Meadow Dance Ruler Panel
And last, but not least, the Ruler Guide for my Meadow Dance Panel, which works with Westalee ruler sets!

There is also a Meadow Dance embroidery collection by OESD – more on that soon!

There is also a free pattern – Meadow Paths, you can download from my downloads page

Good luck on the giveaway and I hope you have a lovely week! Happy quilting!

Introducing Folk Art Fantasy (and a giveaway)!

Posted on 439 Comments

Note: This giveaway is now over.   Congratulations to Judy Henly here and to Robyn Randolph Christie over in my Facebook Group!  I wish I had a bundle to give everyone but it will be in stores in July so there isn’t long to wait.  Patterns will be posted in mid-June.

Hi everyone!

It is now past Spring Market and I can finally show my new collection for Contempo Studios of Benartex – “Folk Art Fantasy”!

Folk Art Fantasy Booth - Spring Quilt Market 2017
My “Folk Art Fantasy” booth at Spring Market 2017!
“Folk Art Fantasy” prints

This modern collection celebrates the exuberance of and beauty of  handmade things.  It is happy and colorful – just the way quilting should be!  It ships in July and patterns will ship even sooner. (And it coordinates with Sewing Room, which came out last year.)

Without further ado, here are the new patterns…

Folklore
“Folklore”: A medallion quilt which is the inspiration for this collection. The pattern includes a full pull-out placement diagram and SVG files.

Folk Garden
“Folk Garden”: A whimsical applique triptych of mini quilts, also including SVG files for digital fabric cutters.

Folk Art Lane
“Folk Art Lane”: Build a village house by house! This quilt is entirely pieced and can be used as a block-of-the-month, or you can just make one row for a mini!

Folk Art Flowers
“Folk Art Flowers”: This one uses 1/3 yard of 12 fabrics for the blocks and is super-easy to piece. I used motifs from my new Traditional Feathers Quiltng Collection to quilt it. (The Quilting Collection will be out in about another month and is digitized both for domestic embroidery machines and longarms! I’ll post more about that next month.)

“All-Star”: Create a dynamic quilt using two colors of fabrics and three sizes of just one block. This one is deceptively easy to piece as it is all built on half-square triangles. There are two color stories of this one and I used the pantographs from my Traditional Feathers Quilting Collection to quilt them.

All quilts were pieced on a BERNINA 7-Series and quilted on the BERNINA Q24 using Aurifil thread, of course!

The patterns will start to ship to shops next week and will be posted to my website mid-June to accommodate my teaching schedule.

If you love what you see, please ask your local shop to order Folk Art Fantasy from Benartex!

Ok, now for the giveaway!  Benartex let me take this beautiful bundle of Folk Art home to give to you guys!  Just comment below to tell me which pattern you like best.  The deadline to enter is at midnight this Sunday, May 28th, 2017.  One comment per person please, and make sure that either your profile is public or you leave a way for me to contact you if you win.

For a second chance to win, make sure to do the same on the that shows these new patterns in my Facebook Group.

I hope you love Folk Art Fantasy and have a great week!  Happy quilting!
