Hi everyone! I hope you are having a happy holiday season! We just decorated our tree and our house is looking very “red and aqua”. Yay! Kind of like this quilt from my first book Modern Holiday that just became a cover girl. It is part of a new book from C&T called “Use Your Yardage” with projects from a variety of authors.
I have five of these over in my shop so if you are interested check them out.
Also new to my shop is my Fall Market pattern “Northern Lights”. This new one is a FAVORITE of mine and, if you are really fast, you might be able to stitch it up in time for Christmas – the design isn’t Christmas specific so can be kept out all winter long! The pattern includes SVG files as well as traditional tracing diagrams and the fabric pictured is from my Nordic Holiday collection. The fabric won’t ship until spring but this pattern is available now. If you love this collection please ask your local shop to order it. I used 28wt. Aurifil thread from my Appliqué Collection for these pieces, using stitch #1329 on my BERNINA 780. I then quilted it on my favorite BERNINA Q24.
Starstruck is also redone with a new cover – it was just perfect for winter so I couldn’t help myself! This one is 2-1/2” strip friendly! I’ve now stitched this one in both Feathers & Flourishes and Northern Holiday – it was so fun to quilt!
The two larger new patterns for this collection, Starry Night and Nordic Row Sampler, which you might have gotten sneak peak of in my Fall Market 2016 post, will ship first quarter of the year. You I’m thinking of doing a quilt along with one or more of these Nordic Holiday patterns in my Facebook group this coming year. Are you in? I hope so.
Also in my Facebook group, I’m currently taking ideas from you all on what quilting motifs you would most like me to catch on video. I recently did feathers but there are a ton of different motifs out there and I plan to start doing more videos in the future. So please chime in and let me know what you’d like to learn how to quilt!
I hope you and your families are enjoying all the baking, making, and merriment the holidays bring. Happy quilting!
Just a short post to announce that C&T has to new little books coming out – Make Precut Quilts and Make Table Runners. That have projects from a variety of authors, including myself. I thought we’d have a fun little giveaway to celebrate!
Enter by going over to instagram and searching for “AMANDAMURPHYDESIGN”. Follow me and leave a comment at the bottom of the picture of the books, ok? No need to regram or anything. I’ll choose a couple winners randomly at the end of this weekend.
Also, just a heads up that we’re starting to talk about quilting plans for Feathers and Flourishes and Sewing Room quilts in my Free-Motion Quilting Idea Group on Facebook. The first quilting plan I’m giving out FREE is Flourishes. (You have to purchase the pattern to make the actual quilt though.) You can find the PDF that explains it on my downloads page, but I’ll answer questions over in my Facebook group, ok? Membership is free, but please make sure I can see that you are a quilter by previewing your page so I can approve the membership.
Hi there everyone. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner I thought I’d make up another free PDF tutorial and video for you guys. This one is on how to quilt hearts! I love quilting hearts because they are very forgiving and have a lot of movement.
Here are some examples of hearts from portions of my Free-Motion Quilting Idea Sampler. (You can join the Facebook group for the Sampler, Book, and App where we talk quilting here.)
I like to put pebbles in the areas between the hearts to fill in any awkward gaps and add interest.
And here is a video so you can see how I actually quilted these out on the BERNINA Q 24…
Before I had the Q 24 I quilted this on my BERNINA domestic machine all the time so you CAN do this!
If you are like me you like to have a visual reference close by while you are quilting, so I also made you a free handout. To get the pdf delivered to your inbox click here or on the graphic below. (But don’t worry, if you are already on my list for updates it won’t send you a duplicate emails – it just needs your email to send the pdf.)
